In his first season as an AFL umpire, former Carlton footballer Jordan Bannister will officiate in this year’s Finals Series.

Jordan played 53 games for Carlton between 2004 and 2009, before retiring as a player and taking up umpiring under the AFL's Player Pathway Program.

Honing his skills at metropolitan and country level in 2010, he went on to umpire in the VFL in 2011 before making his debut as an AFL umpire in the opening round this season.

He is scheduled to umpire the elimination final between Geelong and Fremantle at the MCG on Saturday night.

Jordan has now became the 81st former player to try his hand at umpiring at VFL/AFL level — but 79 of those players made the switch before 1960.
