Earlier this week the Carlton Football Club confirmed it had made contact with Mick Malthouse and Paul Roos regarding the senior coaching position for 2013. Paul has advised the Club that he does not want to coach next season while Mick has confirmed his interest in continuing his successful AFL coaching career.

Carlton President Stephen Kernahan has made the following comments on the progress of discussions:

“Since our initial discussions with Mick and his Manager on Monday evening we have held further discussions in relation to the senior coaching position at the Carlton Football Club.

“These discussions have been very encouraging; however nothing has been finalised. We appreciate Mick has media commitments and as such we will not be having further discussions until next week and hope to be in a position to finalise the coaching position within the next seven days.

“In relation to the Assistant Coaching roles, Darren Harris has advised the Club he will be taking up a position with Leading Teams in Perth in 2013. Darren’s role (VFL Coach and Development & Academy Manager) and any potential changes to the Assistant Coaching panel, will not be confirmed until after the appointment of the senior coach.”
