THE AFL Umpires department has declared there was not enough evidence to call Carlton speedster Chris Yarran out of bounds, and has backed the call of the boundary umpire.

Vision from the Blues 44-point win over the Tigers was reviewed at League headquarters on Friday.

Boundary umpire Chris Roberts has received the backing of officials for allowing play to continue.

"The boundary umpire, to pay the ball out of bounds, must be certain that the whole of the ball is over the line," AFL umpires boss Jeff Geishen said.

"The umpire was in an extremely good position, there was no conclusive evidence to say the ball was totally out and therefore we back his decision.

After receiving a handball from Chris Judd, Yarran exploded along the boundary line towards the Punt Road goals.

He beat one opponent, and came mighty close to the line as he brushed past Steven Morris.

Yarran's spectacular effort remains in contention for goal of the year.

With the official ruling in, this is a goal that might become a famous part of AFL folk law.
