JORDAN Boyd has been rewarded with a spot on the senior list, after showcasing his growth and improvement across a consistent 2024 season.
An inspiring story and a remarkable journey, Boyd was recruited to IKON Park as a mid-season rookie in 2021 after beginning the year playing for his local side Spotswood in the Western Region Football League.
Featuring in seven games in 2022 and nine games in 2023, Boyd more than doubled his games tally in 2024, running out in 19 matches before his season ended prematurely, suffering an adductor injury in the Round 22 match against Hawthorn.
Known for his headband and long sleeves, Boyd is ferocious at the contest and talented with the ball in hand, averaging over 78 percent disposal efficiency, helping him to become a key member of Carlton’s backline.
His presence was particularly felt in the Round 6 match against GWS, where Boyd performed a crucial second-half role on Toby Greene, keeping the GWS captain goalless in a come-from-behind win.
A courageous player, the 26-year-old embodies being a selfless and team-first player, with his pressure off the ball and willingness to put his body on the line a key feature of his game.
Boyd has shaped into a consistent and trustworthy defender under the watchful eyes of fellow teammates, AFL Senior Coach Michael Voss and defensive coach Aaron Hamill.
A resilient person on and off the field, Boyd is often praised by teammates and coaches alike for his hard work and dedication, while his infectious personality has endeared him to all at IKON Park.
Signing a two-year-contract extension earlier this year, fans will be able to watch Boyd run out in the Navy Blue until at least the end of 2026.
He has been promoted to the senior list ahead of the 2024 Telstra AFL Draft which begins next Wednesday evening. The following day will see the continuation of the national draft, before the draft concludes on Friday afternoon with the pre-season and rookie drafts.
