Japanese visitors now Blues for life
A group of 20 Japanese Exchange students from Carey Grammar witnessed their first live AFL game on the weekend.
Before the game we were presented with Carlton scarves and beanies to wear, and I found a person who was doing face painting, and as you can see I have my Carlton logos on my cheeks, I was just so excited, and I was ready for action. I feel like I am a real Carlton supporter. We liked the music and the banner, and the warm up, it was all exciting indeed.
I must say that at the start of the game, I had no idea what was going on, but now I have been able to work that the ball is thrown, rucked, kicked, hand passed, marked and that you have to kick a goal - and I really enjoy calling out ‘ball’ when they tackle each other. When the crowd roars, we cheer because it is very exciting.
Without doubt the best part of the evening was cheering on all of the goals that Carlton kicked against the Lions. We all cheered and waved our scarves! Goals are very good for Carlton.
I think that the players are very strong and brave, and we have all been amazed at how they manage to play on such a big ground - they run and run. Some of the boys from my group think they could play football too, but I don’t think so.
The final siren was also very exciting as we again got to sing along with the Carlton song, although we did not know the words, we sang along to the tune. We love to sing and our teacher S’Carter was also very excited that the Blues won the match.
This is a memory that we will have forever, of the night that we saw AFL football and that Carlton won the match. We will always cheer for The Blues, and will cross our fingers and wish the team all the best for the finals. Thanks again to everyone, it was a great night.
