Carlton players have departed Melbourne ahead of their round 18 clash with the Gold Coast at Metricon Stadium.

Blues veteran Heath Scotland says it's a crucial match, as Carlton fights for a spot in the finals.

"We're aiming to make finals. We've got the challenge ahead of us, and now our destiny is in our hands."

The Suns have shown they are a formidable opponent, causing an upset with a win over Collingwood last weekend.

Scotland says the Blues will need to be on their game on Saturday.

"They're a very good side and they showed last week against Collingwood how good they can be.

"We've got to be on our best performance, but we're up for the challenge."

At 33, Scotland is the most senior player on Carlton's list in years.

But when asked what his future holds, the Blues' reigning Best & Fairest told reporters he's uncertain.

"I've got six games of this year, then hopefully finals. I haven't thought about next year and I won't think about it.

"I'll sit down with the Club and Mick in the next few weeks and discuss what's likely to be for next year, whether I finish up or go again."
