The Northern Blues will take plenty of confidence into this weekend’s clash with old enemy Coburg, after snapping a three-match losing streak.

The 16-point win over Box Hill not only caused an upset, it also marked the first time the Northern Blues have beaten a top four side this season.

Coach Luke Webster says he’s proud of the team’s effort.

“They’re a quality team and we had to really take it right up to them in wet and trying conditions, but I thought the boys applied themselves well and we got the result we wanted.”

Mitch Robinson and Nick Graham pressed their case for selection in Carlton’s senior side, with standout performances.

“They both had over 30 possessions each, nine or 10 clearances each, and a heap of tackles as well. It was a great result for those boys, and also got the ball going our way.”

But there was perhaps no one happier on the park than Rhys O’Keeffe.

The 22-year-old made a successful comeback from a long-term foot injury, which has kept him sidelined this season.

Webster says O’Keeffe showed plenty of spirit.

“It was great to have Rhys out there – he’s a quality bloke and a quality player. I thought he applied himself really well.”

“The thing you’re always going to get from Rhys is his effort and his attitude. He was terrific on the weekend, so hopefully he can build on that performance.”
