FROM the week of 30 September to 6 October, there were the significant additions of Aaron Hamill, Tim Clarke and Ashley Hansen to Carlton’s coaching group. 

In the wake of the appointment of Michael Voss, the Blues moved quickly to complete their assistant coaching panel, bringing in three people with vast coaching experience and the know-how of taking charge of their own sides.

Quality people and coaches: Lloyd on assistants' strengths

Head of Football Brad Lloyd spoke to Carlton Media on the appointments of Aaron Hamill, Tim Clarke and Ashley Hansen to the assistant coaching panel.

When speaking to Carlton Media about the finalised panel, Head of Football Brad Lloyd was quick to praise the incoming trio, but just as quick to single out two men who will continue to have a critical role in Carlton’s way forward. 

In Luke Power and Daniel O’Keefe, Lloyd said the Blues had “two great people” heading the development side of things leading into 2022. 

“Luke has been at the Club for a couple of years now and is fresh off of the Assistant Coach of the Year,” Lloyd said.

“He really galvanises the football department, with the way he is with people and with the players. He really takes them into his own life and teaches as well as coaches.

“Dan O’Keefe’s first year was a Covid year, being in the hub which was really challenging. But he did a really good job with the scrimmage games on the Gold Coast.

VFL Coach Daniel O'Keefe spoke to Carlton Media on the team's form and progression to start the 2021 season.

“This year, we had our Carlton Reserves team, and launching a club over a couple of months was a huge job. He really galvanises that team and he did a great job: we got some great feedback on the way the program was run and he’ll lead that again.

“They’re two special people, Dan and Luke, running our development.”
