THE womens.afl AFLW Team of the Year is in, with three standout Blues featuring in the star-studded line-up.
Consisting of the players who appeared most frequently over the nine Team of the Week selections, Carlton is represented across all three lines.
Featuring among the league’s elite defenders, co-captain Kerryn Harrington was named following a season that saw the stoic leader go from strength to strength.
Often hailed as Carlton’s most tight-knit line, Harrington artfully led and organised the backline while managing a strong individual season where the skipper averaged 15 touches and seven intercepts.
Bluebaggers won’t be surprised to see inaugural Blue Darcy Vescio named among the competition’s elite, with her record-breaking season putting her in contention for the league’s best forward.
Vescio was at her brilliant best in 2021, exceptional marking and accuracy inside 50 securing her the record for the first AFLW player to hit the milestone of 40 career goals.
The first player to kick 16 goals in an AFLW season and reach 100 points, Vescio finished her 2021 campaign as AFLW leading goal-kicker for the second time in her five-year career.
The Team of the Year wouldn’t be complete with the reigning AFLW MVP, with Madison Prespakis capping off Navy Blue representation in this year’s honours.
Named on the interchange for the 2021 team, Prespakis showed her consistency through the 2021 season: she averaged 21.2 possessions (11.1 contested) and four score involvements over her eight games.
