‘BRING your strength.’
Marc Pittonet has said that’s been the message at Ikon Park over the course of pre-season.
It’s been a combative summer on Royal Parade, with Pittonet himself feeling the brunt of some physical training sessions.
Pittonet told Triple M Rush Hour about a concussion sustained after an incidental collision with fellow ruckman Tom De Koning at training last month.
Fully recovered and back in action, Pittonet said it’s been on for young and old throughout the pre-season with all involved looking to replicate game conditions as much as possible.
“You know how we are, we’re all competing as hard as we can. When we put everything as game-like as possible all pre-season, stuff happens,” Pittonet said.
“The big focus is bringing what our strengths are individually. If we can have [our players] bringing their one-wood every week, we think we can make things really interesting.”
While external noise has ramped up about those inside Ikon Park, Pittonet said the players would continue to be held to their own standards set by each other and the coaches.
He believed the game style that Carlton had been adopting over the summer was one which would hopefully excite Bluebaggers around the country.
“The whole expectation side of it… we’ve got higher expectations for ourselves, as proud people. We don’t listen to any noise to be honest, we just focus on putting in work,” he said.
“We’ve been going hard since the first week of January, and the young boys [when they] came back pre-Christmas.
“We’re going to give it everything we’ve got.”
