IT didn’t take long for Carlton’s AFLW list to welcome new Blue Daisy Walker into the fold.

Officially a Blue after being selected by Carlton with pick No.28 in Tuesday’s 2020 NAB AFL Women’s Draft, Walker’s teammates were quick to welcome the draftee from a distance.

“I reckon the whole list – I wouldn’t be able to name every single one of them off the top of my head,” Walker said.

“Everyone I’ve had calls from over the last couple of days, I can’t even list them all.”

Watching the draft with family from her Melbourne home, Walker was overwhelmed to be selected by the Blues after expecting to be picked up in the backend of the draft.

“I was just at home with my family, I really just wasn’t expecting it at all. I thought if I had a chance at all I’d be in the backend, pick No.50 or around that area,” she said.

“I was just sitting there when they called out my name and I just started crying, I didn’t know how to react.

“Then all these text messages started coming in and I was like, ‘oh my gosh this is real, they actually picked me’. It was just really overwhelming.”

Walker joins the Blues alongside fellow Sandringham Dragons graduate Winnie Laing, selected with pick No.36 on Tuesday night.

The pair started their football journeys together, both making the transition from basketball during high school.

“Well Winnie and I both came from basketball three years ago, both started at the Dragons, played three years together and she captained this year,” she said.

“Absolute ripper of a girl, she deserves everything she’s got.”
