Blues conquer Mount Humphreys
The Blues made it to the top of Flagstaff's Mount Humphreys on Thursday morning and celebrated with a rousing rendition of the Club Song.
The highest of a group of extinct volcanic peaks known as the San Francisco Peaks, Humphreys Peak has an elevation of 3,852 meters and is the highest natural point in the U.S. state of Arizona.
Blues forward Luke Mitchell, part of a group of 40 who hiked the mountain, said the sense of achievement in scaling Mount Humphreys wasn't lost on his teammates.
"It was tough, but the feeling we all got when we stepped onto the peak was incredible. We all embraced and congratulated one another. It was a real team effort, that's for sure," Mitchell said.
After a few words from Senior Coach Mick Malthouse, the group linked arms and belted out a rousing rendition of the Club Song.
Mitchell said the majestic beauty of the Kachina Peaks Wilderness, accompanied with the bonding all of the players enjoyed whilst hiking, made it one of the most memorable days of the trip.
"The scenery was amazing. It was hard not to be distracted by our surroundings... But I made sure I got a photo of myself at the peak!"
