Diesel beckons Blues to Barwon Heads Resort
Greg Williams has taken ownership of the Barwon Heads Resort
Just prior to Christmas, Carlton’s 109-game premiership centreman, Norm Smith Medallist and Brownlow Medal winner - together with his devoted wife Mary and a group of real estate associates - took ownership of Barwon Heads Resort at 13th Beach, on the southern shores of the idyllic Bellarine Peninsula.
Previously, “The Diesel” had committed his energies towards a thriving printing business, since sold. Thus, the operative question in terms of his career change is very much “Why?”.
“We just felt it was a good time to have a go, we’ve got a full-time manager there, and in the months since we’ve been working full-time on it,” Williams said.
“We thought it was a great place to get away, and it’s a bit more relaxed.”
According to the company blurb, Barwon Heads Resort at 13th Beach offers a “healthy, relaxing environment on a beautiful, well-serviced property surrounded by Australia’s leading golf courses, spectacular beaches, and popular seaside villages”.
The property, some 90-minutes by car from Melbourne, boasts a meticulously maintained series of fairways and greens as designed by Tony Cashmore and Nick Faldo, together with tennis courts, clubhouse and driving range. Beyond the clubhouse are 38 self-contained one and two-bedroom apartments, together with three separate meeting rooms and a conference centre boasting a capacity of more than 100 people and suitable for seminars, weddings and the like.
Though “The Diesel’ has plenty on his plate, he still finds time for his beloved Bluebaggers. In fact he’s fresh from a weekend away on the Gold Coast, which took in the one-sided affair with the suns at the Gabba.
So what did he think of the Carlton model of 2011.
“We’ll find out in the next couple of weeks,” came the reply.
Greg Williams would be happy to hear from any Carlton supporters (and for that matter non-supporters), interested in taking advantage of the resort’s many and varied amenities. He can be contacted via mobile on 0417 944174, or at greg@barwonheadsresort.com.au.
