The Northern Blues will kick off their 2012 season with 10 Carlton listed players and our NSW Scholarship Rookie lining up for the VFL Round One clash against the Coburg Tigers, this Saturday, March 24 at Mantello Oval in Coburg.

Formerly known as the Northern Bullants, Carlton’s new look VFL affiliate will take to the field for the first time in new colours and a host of new recruits.

Sam Rowe, Nick Heyne and Frazer Dale will play their first games for the Blues after being drafted following the 2011 season while Simon White returns from injury for his first game this year.

This traditional local derby always draws a good crowd. The clubs have played 145 times with Coburg having the upper hand winning 72 matches, compared to the Northern Blues (Preston/Northern Bullants) with 70 wins and three games finishing with scores level at the final siren.

In 2011, the teams met on two occasions, the Northern Blues (then Bullants) winning in Round 3 by seven points with Coburg victors in Round 18 by six points.

The game will be televised live from Mantello Oval, Coburg on ABC1 at 1pm.
