Fish 10, Frankston 4
An extraordinary 10.4 haul from seasoned forward Brad Fisher headlined the Northern Bullants’ 120-point hiding of Frankston
Northern Bullants Senior Coach David Teague said Fisher responded with telling effect after the team banged on 5.7 with the breeze in the opening quarter.
“‘Fish’ actually missed the first couple of shots, but after that he was spot on. We normally rotate, but we left him out there in the first quarter when we had the breeze, and we rested him against it.
“Fish got his goals in all forms. He led up, took a couple of contested marks and got a couple of handball receives. Fish was the completed package in terms of the way he scored his goals.”
Another sterling performer for the Ants was ruckman Sam Jacobs, together with Andrew Walker, who was a solid contributor in the midfield.
“‘Sauce’ was outstanding. He had 29 possessions and six shots on goal, and with 1.5 would have liked to kick a bit straighter. But he rucked well and his touch around the ground was as good as I’ve seen for a big guy,” Teague said.
“Andrew Walker was naturally disappointed after being dropped, but he played around the midfield and his hardness around the contest was exactly what we were looking for.”
Teague also commended his team’s overall performance, acknowledging that the opposition had been more than competitive on their home turf through the course of the season.
“Our best footy has proved to be very good. We’ve just got to find a way to keep playing at that level against all opposition when the pressure’s on,” Teague said.
The sixth-placed Ants will need to be on their mettle this weekend, in confronting third-placed Casey at Visy Park.
