The book about the new Carlton Coach, written by his daughter Christi, was launched today; fittingly it was launched at the MCG.

Those who remember his playing days will remember his as a tenacious, hard-hitting defender, Malthouse played 174 games for St Kilda and Richmond, including the 1980 premiership with the Tigers, one of his eight finals appearances as a player.

But it was as a coach that Malthouse fired the imagination of the football world. After cutting his teeth at Footscray, twice he took teams from the bottom of the ladder to Premiership glory - first West Coast, then Collingwood. A staggering eight grand final appearances and fifty finals in all, mark and extraordinary record.

Malthouse never made excuses for himself and was equally uncompromising with his players. Some fell by the wayside but most prospered and it was as a team builder and canny tactician that he shone. He soon became a colourful figure in the media, playing that game to his club’s advantage, but for all his antics he remained a devoted family man and loyal mate to a legion of friends.

In 2013 Mick Malthouse returns to the job he not only loves most but at which he is the best - Senior Coach. This time it will be at the Carlton Football Club.

This is your chance to get to know the Carlton Coach and understand him better than ever before. The book takes you beyond his football career, beyond the public figure and into his world as seen by his daughter.
