A new look for the Carlton Board
The new-look Carlton Football Club board met for the first-time at Visy Park tonight.
Ahmed Fahour, Luke Sayers, Craig Mathieson and Ryan Trainor attended their first board meeting after being invited to join the board. Fahour and Sayers were appointed to the board at the September meeting while Mathieson and Trainor were officially appointed at tonight’s October meeting after being invited to join late last year.
“We welcome these four business people to our board knowing they will be excellent directors of the Carlton Football Club bringing tremendous expertise and the desire to make Carlton a better Club,” said Carlton President Stephen Kernahan.
As part of the new-look board, two directors resigned their positions after serving for a number of years. Mark Harrison, who joined the board in December 2006 and Ari Suss, who was elected to the board in February 2007, both retired from their roles.
“This is a significant change for the Carlton Football Club with four new directors joining the board and a further two retiring from their positions, following the retirement of Stephen Moulton at our previous meeting,” Kernahan said.
“I wish to thank Mark, Ari and Stephen for the contributions they have made to the Carlton Football Club over a number of years. The expertise and support they have provided to the board and the management of the Carlton Football Club has been very important in helping to rebuild this great Club.”
“Importantly this brings about orderly change while introducing new people and fresh ideas to the board table,” Kernahan added.
Craig Mathieson is a life-long Carlton supporter with a banking and commercial background. The son of Life Member Don, Craig is the CEO of The Mathieson Group and was the CEO of DMS Glass from 2001 and 2007.
Ryan Trainor is a life-long Carlton supporter and sponsor of the Club and a member of the BRW Young Rich Club. A successful business person Trainor was the 2010 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of The Year
Carlton currently has a 13-person board; Stephen Kernahan (President), Richard Newton (Vice-President), Jeanne Pratt (Vice-President), Marcus Clarke, Ahmed Fahour, Zac Fried, Raphael Geminder, Adrian Gleeson, Greg Lee, Mark LoGiudice, Craig Mathieson, Luke Sayers and Ryan Trainor.
“We believe enlarging the board with the right people provides greater choice for succession that will benefit Carlton and enable us to reduce the number of directors in line with our five-year strategic plan through until 2015.
“Our priority at this time is to ensure we have the right people involved with the Carlton Football Club,” Kernahan said.
