Today's session was much longer and it was a warmer day, with Friday being focused on high volume and intensity. The session’s main components consisted of higher volume running efforts, full ground ball movement, touch drills and team drills, in groups of midfielders, defenders and forwards.
My untidy housemate, Patrick Cripps, again moved very well on the track and shared his views of what the session was like.
“Today was a big day out there, the boys were looking to keep maintaining the high intensity effort they've been putting out,” he said.
The warm-up consisted of a physical aspect where light tackling and explosive efforts got the main group ready for their solid session. Short kicking to a stationary then moving target lasted for around 10 minutes, before the group worked into a full ground skill drill.
The main session lasted for more than 100 minutes, with most of the boys walking off the track in no mood to stay and have a chat. A weights session and functional stretching session followed, where a decrease in weight and repetition allowed the group to recovery appropriately following their long session on the track.
Liam Jones is continuing to impress on the track, flying for marks and using his major assets of speed and versatility to his advantage. Leaders in Marc Murphy and Bryce Gibbs continue to impress with their voice and direction, guiding the young players throughout the day.
As for me, I will be spending the next three weeks in Adelaide with family, as I look to keep on top of my rehab. I'm really looking forward to seeing the group continue to improve with 2015 and a whole new season just around the corner.
