Carlton's Blue and White teams, devoid of a number of notable senior regulars, have taken part in a solid Intra-club practice match at Visy Park, in what doubled as the final warm-up before next Sunday week's Nab Cup triple header in Blacktown.
In what were again sweltering conditions at the old Carlton ground, the club's latest National draftees Nicholas Graham and Tom Temay were amongst the game's most impressive.
Michael Jamison was the prominent inclusion, having sat out last Wednesday week's Intra-club at the same venue, but watching on this week were the likes of Eddie Betts, Andrew Carrazzo, Lachie Henderson, Chris Judd, Matthew Kreuzer, Andrew McInnes, Marc Murphy, Heath Scotland, Kade Simpson, Jarrad Waite and Andrew Walker.
Walker, watching on from the Carlton Heroes Stand, spoke for most of those not participating when he said of his absence: "It's just to keep the body fresh. It's a long season, we've got two games next Sunday, so I've just got to make sure that the body's right".
"Most of the guys (sitting out) had some sort of injury toward the end of last year," Walker said. "They're going really well at the minute and they want to be right for the pre-season games leading into the season and not peaking too early."
Back to the game, and Jamison earned Luke Mitchell as his opponent, having lined up in the customary full-back position. But the early focus was on the midfielders where Kane Lucas, Brock McLean (with three goals) and Mitch Robinson all racked up the touches, as did Tom Bell, who went at it like a bull at a gate.
Matthew Watson backed up last week's impressive showing with another, and Jeremy Laidler moved freely, proving he is over that wretched run of outs with a knee complaint.
Whereas last week's the hit-out didn't match this one for physicality, all players again appear to have emerged unscathed, as attentions now turn to GWS and the reigning Premiers.
