Carlton players have warmed up for their clash with the Gold Coast Suns with some early morning exercise at the beach.

The match is set to be played in sunshine at Metricon Stadium, with the forecast for a balmy top of 21 degrees -  a far stretch from the wintery conditions to which Carlton players have become accustomed in Melbourne.

Suns coach Guy McKenna has told reporters he hopes the heat troubles the Blues.

But Carlton Coach Mick Malthouse has laughed off suggestions that the weather will be a factor.

"Not bad from a bloke who suffers badly from sunburn!" Malthouse said of McKenna's comments.

"Rain, hail or shine - it doesn't matter. The game comes down to strategy and having the right processes in place.

"We've been working hard on our game plan and the players have shown improvement each week.

"Today we're expecting another tough match against a rapidly improving side -  but we're ready for it."

Earlier in the week Malthouse dismissed romantic notions of a Brownlow Medalist match-up between Chris Judd and Gary Ablett.

It's still unclear who will get the job on the Suns skipper. But it's certain to be a tough one, after Ablett ran riot with a massive 49 disposals against Collingwood last weekend.

The match kicks off at Metricon Stadium at 1.45pm AEST.
