You could be forgiven for thinking Brownlow night had rolled around a month earlier this year, amid the glitz and glamor of the Women of Carlton’s annual “Dinner with the Boys” gathering at Visy Park on Wednesday.

The George Harris Function Room formed the suitably idyllic venue for the evening’s proceedings, with Australian model Megan Gale and Olympic 400-metre champion Cathy Freeman front and centre as VIPs for the occasion so capably managed by the resident MC Jo Silvagni.

Joining Jo in the house were Jack and Ben - two of her sons to the club’s Team of the Century full-back Stephen Silvagni - together with the Silvagni family matriarch Rita, Vonnie Henderson (the mother of Lachie), Lisa Engel (the mother of Chris Judd) and Dee and Tom Hampson (the parents of Shaun).

Also there was Megan’s partner Shaun Hampson and Jarrad Waite in their capacities as WoC-sponsored players, as well as Chris Judd and his sponsor, the club’s No.1 Female Ticketholder Vivienne Kerr.

Former Carlton Premiership players Geoff Southby and Ian Robertson were also conspicuous by their presence.

In all, more than 100 guests frequented the place, amongst them Leanne Tyrrell, in her capacity as WoC advisory group member.

“It was great to see so many passionate Carlton female supporters in the room, all buoyed by the presence of our sponsored players and Chris Judd and very hopeful for the future,” Leanne said.

“Highlight of the night for me was Carlton’s Team of the Century back pocket Geoff Southby telling Cathy Freeman he remembered being introduced to her by Syd Jackson at Princes Park when Cathy was a young girl . . . what a beautiful thing.”
