The Blues have recalled Matthew Kreuzer and Chris Yarran who both missed last weeks match against the Hawks.
Steven Browne, Jake Edwards, Rhys O’Keeffe, Lachie Hill, Darren Pfeiffer and Luke Stanton have also been included in the 29-man squad.
Carlton Coach, Brett Ratten flagged earlier in the week the Club’s intentions to rest a number of players. Chris Judd, Brendan Fevola, Bryce Gibbs, Ryan Houlihan, Marc Murphy, Kade Simpson, Jarrad Waite and Mitch Robinson have all been left out of the squad that defeated Hawthorn in Round 2 of the NAB Cup.
"Our priority during the pre-season is to prepare individuals and the team for the home and away season. We have a 22-game season and it is important that everyone is prepared for what is a tough physical and mental test, “Ratten told carltonfc.com.au.
"We (the coaches) work with the fitness staff and the medical team to ensure the players have the best preparation. We focus on the workloads of each player and closely monitor those who return from injury. There is a no-risk policy in the pre-season, so any player with a slight injury is not considered for selection and this limited the players available for this week's game to 30.
"The NAB Cup provides the ideal format and conditions to enable clubs to prepare for the season. As we have already seen this year it is also a great opportunity for young players to display their talents while gaining valuable experience at this level. For this week's game against Geelong we look forward to seeing a number of young players in action with leadership provided from senior players including Nick Stevens, Brad Fisher, Bret Thornton and Richard Hadley."
