THE message has been consistent out of Ikon Park in pre-season, and it has been ratified by the Senior Coach.

Carlton will have a forward focus in 2020.

A hallmark of the Blues’ game in their late season form last year was their ability to lock the ball in their front half and generate scores.

Speaking to Triple M’s Hot Breakfast, David Teague said it had been a key objective over the summer — and he hoped the Club’s 62,000-plus members would like what they see.

“Our fans come to the game for a reason: they like seeing scoring,” Teague said.

“Every team is quite strong in the way they coach defence: it’s an 18-man defence.

“If you can get an 18-man offence and get everyone playing a role in offence, it’s a competitive advantage at the moment.”

Heading into his first full season as a Senior Coach, Teague conceded that he is “always learning” and constantly adapting.

Continuing to base himself around the assistant coaches due to the conversation it evokes, Teague also said he has taken the learnings of his playing days.

He said he wanted to apply his key lessons as a player to the current crop.

“As an individual, I feared failure,” he said.

“I went out there to not let the team down. I probably felt that hindered my own performance.

“I’d like to think our players feel comfortable and safe to be the best players they can be and bring their strengths.

“Everyone is different.”
