CARLTON’S new Head of List Management Nick Austin confirmed that four players will be training with the AFL side as of this week.
Speaking to Carlton Media on his first day at Ikon Park, Austin shed some light on how the Blues would fill its one remaining list spot.
The vacancy opened up when draftee Brodie Kemp was shifted to the long-term injury list.
Austin confirmed the four players who would be training with the Blues were Jordan Cunico, Callum Moore, Ryan Sturgess and Lukas Webb (previously announced).
“We’ve got four players who are going to be training with the group to put their best foot forward for that last list spot,” Austin said.
“They’re very different players with different skills.”
Here’s what Austin had to say about the four individual train-on players.
Jordan Cunico (ex-Geelong): “Jordan Cunico will join us on Friday — he has signed with the Northern Blues, so it’s fantastic to have him on-board. He’s a different kind of player: he’s more outside and his running and ball-use is his strength.”
Callum Moore (ex-Richmond): “Callum Moore is freshly out of the Richmond program: he’s a key position, his speed and his power set him apart as well as his flexibility to play at either end.”
Ryan Sturgess: “Ryan is a young player out of the under-18s system who’s a competitive player from the Northern Knights and Vic Metro. He’s a bit taller, he can play both ends of the ground.”
Lukas Webb (ex-Western Bulldogs): “Lukas Webb has been with the group since November. He’s an ex-Bulldogs who is nicely balanced with great skills, and he’s pretty versatile.”
AFL clubs are permitted to fill any vacancies on their playing list in the Supplemental Selection Period which ends on March 13 — the Friday before Round 1.
