“I’M AT ground zero again and I’m loving that feeling.”
A change of surrounds has been just what the doctor ordered for Jack Newnes.
After eight seasons and 155 games with St Kilda, Newnes arrived at Ikon Park on the first day of November.
From the opening six weeks, Newnes said he’s “feeling a million bucks” and as mentally fresh as he has ever been.
He can’t wait for the bounce of the ball, particularly giving the taste he got of Carlton crowds - despite being on the other side - in Round 22 of last season.
“The noise and the way the Blues supporters got behind the boys [against St Kilda] was pretty special,” Newnes told The Herald Sun.
“Stuff like that resonated with me. I know it’s a massive club, the supporter base is unbelievable and it’s got a great history.
“It was a bit of a shock to be honest — the competitiveness among the young brigade and how much they want it.
Newnes also ran through who’s exciting him this off-season (spoiler alert: Jacob Weitering), the impressive leadership group and his role heading into 2020.
