The Carlton Football Club was in esteemed company on Friday, as a handful of club greats returned to Ikon Park to impart their legacy and passion on the current playing group.
Premiership heroes Mark Maclure, Stephen Kernahan, David Parkin and Robert Walls joined Chris Judd in sharing their experiences at Carlton and what it meant to represent the Old Dark Navy Blues.
The visit was an initiative by senior coach Brendon Bolton, who since arriving has endeavored to instill a real sense of belonging amongst the playing group, supporters and administration.
“It is important to understand the higher purpose of club. When you begin to realise this and value it, everything you do will have more meaning and you will strive to go above and beyond,” Bolton said.
“Until this is acknowledged and acted upon, it is harder to extract the best out of yourself and your teammates.”
Head of Football Andrew McKay described it as invaluable for the team’s growth.
“Brendon (Bolton) and the Club felt it was important to hear from Carlton people who have been there and done it. What it takes and ultimately what it means to represent Carlton in the highest order.
“Our reset has brought many new players and coaches to Ikon Park and we have a responsibility to tap into such great experience and knowledge as we embark on the club’s new journey.” McKay said.
“Culturally it's a great initiative and we will continue to reach out to as many Carlton people as possible and engage them over the course of the year.” McKay said.
