Carlton Football Club is delighted to announce Matthew Wright has signed a new one-year deal.

The 26-year-old made his way to Ikon Park at the end of 2015 as a delisted free agent after 94 games with the Adelaide Crows.

“Ahead of another pre-season, it’s great to have put pen to paper with the Club that took a chance on me last year,” Wright said.

“I just tried to make the most of my opportunities this season and my teammates and coaches have been really supportive.

“The culture we are establishing at the Club is really strong and I’m excited about another year with this group under ‘Bolts’ as we continue to develop and build on our foundations.”

Head of Football Andrew McKay said Wright had made an immediate impact in the Blues’ line-up after crossing clubs in 2015.

“Matt has impressed everyone with his professionalism and approach to the game and made the most of his opportunities this year,” McKay said.

“Not only is Matt a high-quality person, he demonstrates really strong leadership qualities which will continue to be important for our younger players next season.”

Playing all 22 games, Wright was Carlton’s leading goalkicker this season. The inside midfielder was initially drafted to Adelaide in the 2009 Rookie Draft, before arriving at the Blues as a delisted free agent at the end of 2015.

Wright has played 116 senior games and kicked 85 goals since making his debut in Round 4, 2011 against Port Adelaide.

The goalsneak is looking forward to spending another year at Ikon Park after signing a new one-year deal.
