Dennis does it for the kids
The kids of the Royal Children’s Hospital‘s Cancer Centre continue to inspire Dennis Armfield
Such is Armfield’s admiration for the bravery of the little ones quite literally fighting for their lives that he’s felt compelled to assist in any way he can.
Armfield was recently on hand at a donation presentation ceremony, at which a cheque for $80,000 was forwarded to the RCH’s ‘Children’s Cancer Centre Foundation’, which was organised by the Steven Walter Foundation and supported by Carlton’s joint major sponsor Hyundai.
In the third round Carlton-Essendon match at the MCG back in April, voluntary tin rattlers raised more than half of this sum, with Hyundai pledging a further $1000 for every goal kicked during the match and the Steven Walter Foundation a further $30,000.
As Susan Walter, founder of The Steven Walter Foundation, said: “With one in four children diagnosed with cancer succumbing to the disease, it is imperative research and funding be supported to ensure the goal ‘100% survival’ can be a reality and not just a dream”.
Acting Director, Children’s Cancer Centre, Professor Paul Monagle said the entire staff of the RCH Children’s Cancer Centre is “most appreciative of this generous donation”.
“It will be so important in supporting our children as they battle their disease and try to return to their normal lives. Apart from the financial contribution, we recognise the importance of the support and goodwill this effort entails, and for that we are most grateful,” Professor Monagle said.
The cheque presentation took place at the RCH Children’s Cancer Centre with senior executives in attendance from the Royal Children’s Hospital Melbourne, the Children’s Cancer Centre Foundation, the Murdoch Centre Research Institute, Hyundai Motor Company Australia, the Steven Walter Foundation, and of course one D. Armfield.
