The Carlton Football Club is thrilled to confirm that Francis Evans has been signed to the rookie list as part of the pre-season Supplemental Selection Period (SSP).
Evans is a competitive small forward who thrives on a high-pressure game style. Agile at ground level with speed to break out of a contest, Evans poses a dangerous threat alongside his proficient overhead ability.
The 23-year-old had already committed to the Blues’ VFL program, showing his genuine want to play in the Navy Blue, but has now earned another chance at the top level.
Originally drafted to Geelong before heading across to Port Adelaide, Evans already arrives with AFL experience, featuring in 34 games across the two clubs, including 17 games in 2024 as well as three finals.
It’s a happy homecoming for Evans, who grew up in Brunswick and recently returned to Melbourne after stints at the Cats and the Power.
“Francis is a resilient person and player: his immense professionalism, dedication and hard work he has put in to make his way back to the highest level is really impressive. He’s a great example for those coming through the system,” Carlton Head of List Management Nick Austin said.
“Francis is a true competitor, his attack on the ball and ability to do anything and everything that‘s required for the team have all been crucial to seeing him earn his spot back on an AFL list.
“He is a talented small forward who will really complement our current group, so we are excited to see his growth and development across the season.
“We are thrilled to be able to offer him another opportunity in the AFL and know he will fit in seamlessly here at Carlton.”
