As the orb is to the sceptre so too is Lygon Street to the Carlton Football Club... and on Tuesday next, in celebration of Carlton’s time-honoured links with one of the city’s most famous retail strips, all members of the senior playing group and the coaches will strut their stuff in a “meet and greet” with traders and supporters alike.

The Mighty Blues will make their presence felt on Lygon’s legendary promenade between 1pm and 2pm to launch the “BLUE ZONE” campaign - appropriately enough on the street where the club itself was founded almost 150 years ago.

Without question, the Lygon Street precinct and its colourful array of characters have lived and operated hand-in-glove with their football club for decades - and uniquely contributed to the very fabric of Carlton’s rich cosmopolitan tapestry in the process - from the club’s very own official barber Ernie Angerame through to mine host at The Hotel Astor, the four-time premiership ruckman Peter “Percy”Jones.

Which is why, in celebration of this relationship, the Carlton players and coaches will be on hand to say “Thankyou to Lygon Street” . . . and in the process present every retailer with an exclusive “BLUE ZONE” sticker for display in their shop fronts in support of both the football club and the Carlton community.

So when the players and coaches converge, all those with dark Navy Blue blood beating through their veins are encouraged to get down to Lygon Street and lend your support to an enduring and uniquely Carlton partnership.
