As part of the Carlton Community Fund, representatives from the Carlton Football Club were special guests at the Box Hill Chinese New Year Festival last weekend.

With the help of a translator, children and adults from the Chinese community were taught about Australian Rules Football as well as Carlton’s longstanding relationship with Melbourne’s multicultural community.

Carlton Community Fund Manager, Yuta Kobayashi, said events like this were an important way to interact with the local community.

“Through our program, the Carlton Football Club uses football as a vehicle to assist ethnic minority groups to better integrate into Australia society,” he said.

“Events like this are a great way to promote the Carlton brand to a new audience and give back to the community.”

The Carlton Community Fund was established in 2009, based on a proposal by former Carlton Football Club President Richard Pratt to assist the local community.

“Although the language barrier was a challenge, I think we have found some new Carlton fans amongst the Chinese community and look forward to seeing them out at a game this season,” Mr Kobayashi said.
