As expected, the 2012 Trade Period was quiet for Carlton, with just the one deal completed, that of Jordan Russell to Collingwood in exchange for selection 71 in the upcoming AFL National Draft.

“Our objective during this Trade Period did not waiver. If we had the opportunity to recruit a player that would make us a better team, and by that I mean a player that would help us win finals matches, we would certainly be interested,” said Carlton GM Football Operations, Andrew McKay.

“We were only prepared to be involved in the free agency & trade periods for very good players or picks. Importantly we were not going to trade just for the sake of trading.”

McKay said the deal involving Jordan Russell provided him with another opportunity.

“We are pleased that we were able to give Jordan another opportunity at another club,” McKay said.

McKay’s comments reflect the pre-Trade Period comments made by new Coach Mick Malthouse who said he didn’t expect Carlton to be very active during the month-long Trade Period.

“The list itself I am quite happy with… I look at our list and see some very, very exciting young players and senior players that are going to help in that area.

“We will be making minimal changes and will be very selective,” Malthouse said in early October.

The Carlton Recruiting Team will now focus on the 2012 NAB AFL National Draft that will be held on the Gold Coast on Thursday November 22nd.

Carlton will have a minimum of three selections at the National Draft and the indicative Draft order following the Trade Period will see Carlton have the following selections at the NAB AFL National Draft:

11 - 36 - 56 - 71 - 76
