WILL Setterfield made an immediate impact in his first year in Navy Blue.
The versatile midfielder grew into his role in the second half of 2019, adding depth to the young group he joined in the trade period 12 months ago.
Setterfield reflected on his realised dream of pulling on the Navy Blue jumper when speaking to Carlton Media.
“I’ve absolutely loved my first year at Carlton. To play for the Navy Blues has been a dream of mine,” Setterfield said.
“I thought the group really improved this year and we’re all looking forward to next year.
“For me personally, I thought I improved a lot this year as a player and I can’t wait for next year.”
Playing 18 games in 2019, Setterfield showed himself to be a key utility for the Blues – equally as impactful up forward as he was in both an inside and outside midfield role.
While he believes his strength is through the middle, the 21-year-old is eager to remain versatile going into next season.
“I’ve loved playing in the midfield this year and started to get some consistency in my form and with my body,” he said.
“I’ve loved being able to play numerous roles this year for the coach and be able to get thrown into a few different positions. That the coaching staff have confidence in me to do that is really good.
“I’m happy to play anywhere: I don’t have a preference, but I’ve loved playing in the midfield the majority of this year.”

Looking ahead to season 2020, Setterfield is hoping the consistency of his first year at Ikon Park will carry him through a strong pre-season.
Setterfield is hopeful the Blues’ run of form will carry them forward and to repay the faith of the Bluebaggers who turned up in their droves.
“For me having a big pre-season and just building on my body and building on my form in the back half of this year,” he said.
“We’ve had a few big wins at the back end of the year and we’ve absolutely loved the support the fans bring every week.
“The numbers are getting bigger and bigger and that’s what as players we’re after and that’s what we love.”
