JOINT captains Patrick Cripps and Sam Docherty have shared their praise for outgoing coach Brendon Bolton.
Speaking shortly after today’s announcement, the two captains were quick to commend Bolton for his dedication, acknowledging the improvement he has inspired amongst the team during his four years at the Blues.
“It’s a pretty tough day at the Club. We’re pretty disappointed as players,” Docherty said.
“We care for Bolts as a person, as much as a coach. He’s got stung by the win-loss record.
No surprise, whatsoever, to see Bolts handle himself with the class he has today.

He was the biggest crusader for the #BoundbyBlue mantra through his time and lived that today.
I now fear for the lobster & fish off the coast of Tassie. Get the message to them... he's coming!
“We’re not where we want to be as a footy club at the moment, and we completely understand the decision that the Club has made to move forward and to move on.
“We thank him for everything that he’s done. He’s set us up with a really professional standard and he’s set us up in a way that we believe we can move forward and have a good future ahead.”

Speaking on a more personal level, Cripps also echoed the sentiment shared by Docherty about how Bolton has helped his own development at the Club.
The 24-year-old commended the work ethic, commitment and care shown by Bolton towards the entire playing group, believing the way he conducted himself on a professional level would leave a lasting impact on the Club.
Brendon Bolton didn’t need to be part of that today. I’m glad he was. It was good to see the smile back. He deserves great credit for his commitment to the job.

“Personally, especially for ‘Doc’ and myself, I suppose he’s been a massive part of our development not only as a player, but as a leader and as a person,” Cripps said.
“One thing ‘Bolts’ really taught me was the work ethic it takes to succeed in life. His work ethic is second to none. I’ve never seen someone work as tirelessly as he has.
“I’m disappointed, I had a strong connection with ‘Bolts’ and he was a good mentor. It’s that human element, where you’re definitely grieving a little bit.”
Carlton assistant coach David Teague will step in for the remainder of the season as caretaker coach.
