DARCY Vescio and Carlton are under no illusions of what this weekend is going to take.

The Blues will head into their first Grand Final on Sunday, but Vescio herself is no stranger to the big stage.

Vescio won four consecutive premierships with the Darebin Falcons in the VWFL between 2013-2016, and was adjudged the best player on the ground in 2014 and 2015.

Vescio said the opportunity to play on the big stage is something which the playing group can’t wait to experience.

“It was unbelievable on the weekend, we’re so excited to be in this position,” Vescio said.

“I do love playing in pressure situations. Grand Finals, it’s an honour to play in them. I hope I can step up and do my bit.”

While she hasn’t been as prolific on the scoreboard than in recent seasons, Vescio has still been a reliable source of goals in 2019.

In particular, she believes her partnership with fellow forward Tayla Harris is building each week.

“I try and move around Tay. You see the way she attacks the ball — I certainly don’t want to get caught underneath her at any time,” she said.

“I try and be aware of where she is and she does the same for me. I think we’ve been working together a bit better this year, we’re building a bit of synergy.”

The star forward believed there was an element of coming to terms with the significance of the weekend, particularly given the group’s development over the course of the season.

Vescio said it was crucial that the Blues focussed on their own game, no matter how big the challenge of the opposition and occasion was.

“It seems so sudden because AFLW is so short. If you don’t make finals, it was over a week ago but now you look and we’re playing in a Grand Final — it feels pretty special,” she said.

“I feel like the way we’ve played, we’ve been able to build week-to-week and that feels good as a team. On the weekend having a convincing win, that puts us in a good position.”
