CARLTON’S VFLW side will be bolstered with a number of key inclusions for this week’s season-ending clash with Geelong.
After the side’s thrilling win in round 15 against Darebin, this week’s inclusions are led by All Australian and AFLW star Gab Pound, which will have the Blues full of optimism and confidence going into Saturday’s game at GMHBA Stadium.
Pound is one of two inclusions to the line-up, with highly rated youngster Gab Newton from the Northern Knights also coming back into the side for the Blues.
Touted as one of the draft’s brightest young talents, Newton will play her second game for the VFLW Blues, after showing positive signs in her debut a month ago.
However the Blues will be without Katie Loynes, whose ability to find the football and apply pressure on the opposition was a catalyst in last week’s thrilling win. Loynes collected a team-high 22 disposals and 11 tackles in the win over the Falcons.
Phoebe Chisholm also makes way from the line-up.
The Blues bounced back in the best way possible in Round 15 against Darebin, showing resilience, fight and relentless pressure to come away with a seven-point win.
Northern Knights youngster Britney Gutknecht has once again been named as 23rd player after being one of her side’s best last weekend. Abbie McKay has been named across half-forward after last week’s heroics, where she kicked the final two goals of the game to seal victory.
With Geelong still fighting for a finals spot, the Blues will look to repeat their level of intensity and attack around the contests in the final round if they are to come away with victory.
The Round 16 VFLW clash will be held at GMHBA Stadium, with a starting time of 1:45pm.
