THE Curnow family is a Carlton family — and that was evident for all to see at Ikon Park on Tuesday.
On the eve of his 150th game in the Navy Blue, Ed Curnow had no less than nine family members present when he spoke to media.
In becoming just the second player in the No.35 at Carlton to achieve the milestone, Curnow said he was “really grateful” to reach 150 games for the Carlton Football Club.
But at the forefront of his mind was a win on Sunday.
“It’s been great for myself, for my career and for my family: I’ve had a lot of good times,” Curnow said.
“I suppose I’ll look back when my career is done and this will be a moment I’m proud of.
“But right now, I’m pretty keen on getting another win. Being so close on the weekend, it hurt.”
Curnow and the Blues will be hopeful history repeats in his 150th game: teammates Kade Simpson, Marc Murphy and Matthew Kreuzer all tasted success in their corresponding milestone. They’re the only three others on Carlton’s list to have achieved 150 games at the Club.
However, there’s one particular teammate that Ed is hopeful runs out alongside him on Sunday: his brother, Charlie.
“It’d be great, I hope he gets himself up. He’s been mucking around with his knee for the last couple of weeks,” he said.
“He’s a dynamic, powerful guy and he’s had a bit of an issue there which he’s trying to get right so he can play out the rest of the year.”
Charlie wasn’t the only one to join Ed at the press conference. Also in attendance were Ed’s wife Emily, son Will, dad Dave, mum Cassie, siblings George, Eliza and Charlotte as well as niece Lucinda.
Tying in with Ed’s milestone game is the launch of the Bloodlines | Curnow documentary, which saw Ed and Charlie retrace their family roots.
“In the off-season, we went overseas. I got to take my wife Emily, baby Will, Charlie came over and Mum and Dad. We went back to Cornwall, which is where the Curnow name is from,” he said.
“We got to see distant relatives and see how the Curnows used to live. It was an awesome trip — I’m very thankful to the Club and Virgin Australia for putting it on for us.”
Bloodlines | Curnow, presented by Virgin Australia, will air tonight from 7pm on Facebook.
