THE CARLTON Football Club will tonight air the third instalment of Bloodlines presented by Virgin Australia.
Bloodlines | Curnow showcases the background to the incredible Curnow family story, as Ed and Charlie Curnow embark on a 17,264km journey to where it all began in Cornwall, United Kingdom.
Three generations made the trip, with parents David and Cassie joining Ed’s wife Emily and son Will on the adventure to discover the meaning behind the ‘Curnow’ name.
Ed last visited Cornwall in 2000, when his dad David took the family over to England on holiday. For Ed, this time was different as he was able to share the experience with his one-year-old son Will.
“It’s unbelievable to visit Cornwall to be honest, given that Dad brought us here about 20 years ago and now I get the chance to come back and bring my wife Emily and son Will,” Ed said.
“Just getting the chance to find out why the Curnows went to Australia, and seeing all the different villages, farms and mines where we used to work gave me the chance to gain a true appreciation of our background and history.”
Carlton Media compiled hours of footage and editing in conjunction with industry-leading filmmaker Lincoln Cleak to produce the insightful documentary.
In 2017 the first edition of Bloodlines saw Jack Silvagni trace his family heritage in Italy while last year, Darcy Vescio also travelled to Italy as well as Hong Kong to uncover her family story. Both documentaries were produced with the support of Virgin Australia.
Carlton CEO Cain Liddle said the Bloodlines series was a great way for the Club’s members and supporters to get to know their players off the field.
“As a club, the Bloodlines series has been great to offer an insight into our players as people,” Liddle said.
“The Curnow story has provided such an insight into their lives away from football and shown they are so much more than just athletes.”
