David Buttifant has offered an insight into his vital role as Carlton’s newly-appointed High Performance Manager in the second part of his exclusive interview for CFC TV.
Buttifant, a leading authority in the specialist field of sports science, has canvassed his philosophies in his first interview since assuming the position in early November.
Buttifant talked of his commitment to ensuring Carlton’s senior players were fully prepared for the rigours of a long and arduous season from the start “to the pointy end” of the home and aways.
“Our game is a great game, it’s a hybrid sport and you need to have good endurance, good speed, good power, good strength. There’s a technical component as well . . . (so) you have to have a whole array of skills and abilities,” Buttifant said.
“(So) if (for example) player A is limited here, for that player to become a better player what do we need to address? It’s really about homing in on deficiencies, identifying strengths and working on them.”
Buttifant also aired his views towards altitude training in the lead-up to the Carlton players’ second foray into Arizona, and the net gain for the players in committing to the Arizona experience.
