CARLTON'S Celine Moody has called time on her career after playing seven seasons, across two clubs, in the AFLW.
Moody, played 51 games across her time at Western Bulldogs and Carlton, including featuring in finals in Season 7.
Selected by the Western Bulldogs as a rookie in 2018, Moody was competitive from the get-go and a team-first player, often competing in the contest, in the air or on the ground, at the advantage of her teammate.
Arriving at the Blues at the end of 2023, reuniting with her twin sister Brea Moody, she only missed two games in her first campaign at Carlton, with her strong ariel ability complementing Carlton’s forward line.
Moody expressed her appreciation for the opportunity to play at the highest level.
“It has been such an honour to play in the AFLW competition, a future goal I thought was never possible for my younger self,” Moody said.
“To see firsthand the expansion and growth of the competition has been so incredible, it’s been a privilege to contribute to creating more opportunities for women to compete at the highest level in sport.
“I have really enjoyed my time at Carlton and the Western Bulldogs. Playing alongside my sister Brea was a dream come true for both of us, from cheering from the sidelines to getting to run out through the banner together, it's something I am eternally grateful for.
“I’m thankful to all those who have been part of my journey, especially my family and friends, it hasn’t been the smoothest ride, but their unwavering support and dedication were essential in helping me through my career.
“Football has shaped so much of my story, and that connection will always remain, I might not be on the field in 2025, but I will be cheering from the stands. ’m excited to embrace the new opportunities that the future holds.”
AFLW Senior Coach Mathew Buck said he was grateful to be able to play a small part in Moody’s career.
“Across her time involved in the sport, at both junior level and in the AFLW competition, Celine has shown an incredible amount of resilience, evident in the way she never let down when battling injuries, always putting in the hard yards to get back to being her best.
“Beginning her career competing as the only girl in an otherwise all-boy league in under –11's, she has helped pave the way for girls to be able to play from a young age and have someone to look up to.
“We thank Celine for all she has done for not only the Club but the competition, and we wish her nothing but the best as she steps into this next season of life.”
