SOMETHING for everyone.

Ahead of the AFLW Pride Round, members from Carlton’s AFLW side visited the Pride Centre in St Kilda to learn about the history of LGBTQIA+ communities in Australia.

Educating themselves on the issues the LGBTQIA+ community has faced and the people who fight for them will be front of mind when pulling on the 2023 Pride guernsey on Sunday afternoon, with Brea Moody acknowledging the community and the tireless work they put in to be recognised.

“We’ve been very fortunate to go on a tour and look through all the bits and pieces that make up the centre and to see all the culture and community from a pride aspect,” Moody said.

“Everyone in the community has a place to belong and we feel really privileged to be out there playing for those people and it’s more than a footy game.”

Having been involved in every Pride Round that Carlton has played in, the ruck has noticed a shift in the support for the movement, with more fans and more external support for the game than in previous years.

With the fifth year in a row that Carlton will wear a Pride guernsey - designed in collaboration with the Carlton Pride fan group - Moody has seen the impact the game can have on the community, especially when they see themselves represented on the field or in the guernsey design.

“I think the community are really able to see themselves represented – we love to celebrate differences and individuality within the AFLW,” she said.

“People are going to feel so much more like they belong when they can see people like themselves on the field.”

With Carlton’s last home game fast approaching, the 26-year-old was buoyed by the prospect of a big crowd at IKON Park on Sunday, as they take on St Kilda in the final game of the regular season.

Noting the extra energy it gives to the playing group, Moody hoped the clash would be fierce and that the Blues could finish their season on a strong note.

“We not only play for this jumper, but for those out in the community so when we hear them cheering us on, it only gives us more energy and I can’t wait for that on the weekend,’ she said.

“It’s going to be a massive game, we’re looking to finish the [home-and-away] season with a bang.”
