IT WAS a disappointing outing for the Blues, who fell by 60 points against the Roos in the inaugural AFLW SuperClash.
Despite the dominance North Melbourne displayed, Senior Coach Mathew Buck believes his group will take a lot out of the game and be able to implement changes before their trip to Perth.
Here's what he had to say.
On the game as a whole:
“I thought our first half, our contest was very strong, we understand our reality for sure, we’re two games into our season and the Kangaroos are a few years into their build.
"It’s great to come up against a really tough opposition and see where you stand, but we’ve got some positives to take out of the game for sure and then plenty to work on.”
On Mimi Hill's performance:
“Mimi’s has an outstanding pre-season and led the way. We’ve chased a high-performance culture at the club and Mimi’s been a real driver of that, hence her being out in as vice-captain of the Club, so I’m really proud of Mim today – she played a four-quarter effort. She wants us to get better, and we’ll go to work on it and come in on Tuesday ready to go”.
On the SuperClash cause:
“It's great to play for a cause that’s bigger than football. What the Royal Children’s Hospital do for our community is absolutely outstanding.
"To be a part of a big game like this is really exciting for us and we’d love to be a part of it moving forward. It’s not lost on our players that we’re really grateful to be playing football and at a great football club when there are so many people out there doing it tough, so we’re happy to be part of it that’s for sure”.
On the result:
“We’re disappointed. You get that reality check, but we’re ready to come to work again next week, dust ourselves off and learn from it.
"It’s a great time to get on the road together and head to West Coast and get ready to crack in against them and have a great game, so we’ll take our learnings and get to work next week”.
On the reaction from the team:
“We want to be a connected team - on and off the field - inside the rooms, we’re super connected. They’re disappointed with how we played and the result of the game, but they’re backing each other run to turn up next week and go after it”.
