CARLTON has fallen by 60 points to North Melbourne in Round 2 AFLW action.

Carlton suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of a valiant North Melbourne, who showed their class and determination from the first bounce.

Mimi Hill was a major contributor through the middle of the ground, collecting 31 disposals, but the hosts banded together for a complete team performance with too many contributors around the ground.

Abbie McKay was another major ball-winner for the Blues, gathering 25 disposals of her own, working alongside Hill in the centre to try and cut through.

North Melbourne dominated in the forward half all afternoon, totalling 34 more inside 50s than the Blues, while Carlton could only convert one of their entries into a score.

Trying to retain the ball in their attacking zone proved difficult for the Blues, with the Roos rebounding 13 of 15 inside entries.

With the constant surge from North Melbourne being the story of the day, Carlton continued with their high tackle numbers from last week- laying 81 tackles - with Amelia Velardo, Keeley Sherar and McKay all amassing seven tackles each.

As the Roos punished the defensive 50 from the opening siren, it was Harriet Cordner standing as tall as she could up back, with nine of her 19 disposals being intercept possessions and holding onto seven strong marks.

On an afternoon the Blues would rather forget, the lone goal was added to the scoreboard by a levelheaded set shot from Irish second-gamer Erone Fitzpatrick, bringing a bright smile and cheer to the Carlton faithful who gathered on the sidelines of Arden Street late in the game.

Despite doing their best to hold the rampaging Roos to five goals by three-quarter-time, a five-goal final quarter from the home side put an emphatic end to the game, handing the Blues a ten-goal defeat.

With a lot to learn from their performance, Carlton will board a flight to Perth next week to take on the West Coast Eagles on Sunday afternoon.
