IN A letter to members, Carlton President Luke Sayers has said the Club has owned its "disappointing and frustrating" start to the year but added a healthy dose of perspective on the season.
Admitting that the team’s recent form hasn’t been up to the standard set internally, Sayers said the onus was on everyone at the Club to take hold of expectations and dictate the team’s fortunes in 2023 and beyond.
Reiterating the need to demand the best out of one another and dictate their own destiny, Sayers said players, coaches, staff and fans involved in Carlton were in this together — and would do so “every step of the way”.
“There is no point sugarcoating it, it simply hasn’t been good enough to this point. We’d rather own it now so that we can get on with addressing it,” Sayers said.
"It comes as no surprise to any of us that there has been significant external noise around our football club this year... what we won’t do though, is let external narratives dictate our reality.
"That reality sees us currently two points out of the top eight, with 13 games to go. That is the challenge ahead of us for the remainder of the year.
“This football club is done with finger pointing. Stability and unity in your football program is what gets you through tough patches.
“There is a lot of football still to be played and if last season taught us anything, it is that a season is a marathon, fortunes can changes and it’s on us now to change ours for the better.”
