CARLTON will have two new club debutants when Adam Cerra and George Hewett run out for their first game in the Navy Blue tomorrow night.
Cerra becomes Carlton player No.1225 following his arrival from Fremantle over the off-season, while former Swan Hewett becomes No.1226.
The midfield duo have been two of the Blues’ most impressive performers in pre-season, shining in the two practice matches against St Kilda and Melbourne.
Now, they get their chance on centre stage in front of potentially 80,000 at the home of football.
The pair have been named as the starting on-ballers alongside captain Patrick Cripps.
Sam Docherty takes on his natural position on a half-back flank, next to Mitch McGovern in his new role in defence.
It’s also a milestone of sorts for Oscar McDonald, who starts his first game for the Blues. His previous three came as the sub: he was last activated into a game in the corresponding fixture against Richmond last year, where he kicked two goals on his 25th birthday.
For just the 18th time, Charlie Curnow, Harry McKay and Jack Silvagni have been named in the same side after being drafted together in the 2015 NAB AFL Draft.
It also marks the first occasion since Round 23, 2017 that Curnow and Docherty will feature in the same Carlton line-up.
Tomorrow night’s contest begins at 7:25pm from the MCG, in the first AFL home game in front of Bluebaggers for 250 days.
