Harry McKay has been awarded the Coleman medal for the 2021 season.
The Coleman Medal is awarded to the player who kicks the most goals in the home-and-away season
Kicking 58 goals over 19 games, McKay becomes just the third Carlton player, alongside Brendan Fevola (2006 & 2009) and Tom Carroll (1961), to receive the honour since the medal’s inception and the seventh Carlton player in history to kick the most goals in a season, with Mick Grace, Ern Cowley, Horrie Clover and Harry Vallence in his company.
Despite not playing the last two games of the season, McKay had created enough of a buffer to take home the medal comfortably, sitting atop the leader board for the majority of the 2021 season.
McKay’s most notable performance saw him slot seven goals against Fremantle in Round 3, a career high for the 23-year-old, backing it up with another six three weeks later against Brisbane.
Out of his 19 games, there were only three occasions where McKay kicked one goal or less, making his mark as a prominent tall-forward of the competition.
McKay’s last career-high goal tally was 26 in 2019, which just shows the vast improvement the forward has made over the last few years, particularly with his contested-marking prowess as well as his ability to finish the job in front of goal.
