Brodie Kemp found his feet in a new role in 2023, becoming a key defender and a mainstay of the Blues’ best 22.
Selected at pick No.17 in the 2019 AFL Draft, Kemp was hampered by injury early in his career, resulting in him only having played six senior games since arriving at Carlton before 2023.
The backman played 17 games at the highest level in 2023, kicking off a solid run that began in Round 11, seeing him play every game thereafter bar the preliminary final.
Working as a third tall alongside Jacob Weitering and Mitch McGovern, Kemp’s intercept marking and positioning made him a valuable member of the backline.
The 22-year-old’s consistency and positive trajectory earned him a two-year contract with the Blues, seeing him sign on until at least the end of 2025.
Playing his first AFL game for the year in Round 9, Kemp filled a hole across half back, playing his role for the team down back as a key defender when in the senior side.
Kemp played at both ends of the ground in the VFL, able to play wherever the team needed him depending on the week.
Kicking 10 goals in the VFL, Kemp was a handy utility player for the reserves, developing his holistic game and continuing to hone his versatility in the state league.
