Overview

Kerryn Harrington took her game to another level in 2021, achieving a career-high for disposals (132) while also leading the way for intercepts and rebounds in the Blues for the Blues.

The co-captain's efforts over her nine games did not go unnoticed by the competition, recognised with selection in the initial 40-person AFLW All-Australian squad.

Harrington finished third in the best and fairest for the second time, as well as making the AFLW team of the year for her standout year.

As skipper, Harrington provided leadership and an unrivalled toughness on the field, able to turn the game on its head through her defensive work alone.

Best performance

Harrington’s best performance came in Round 7 despite the Blues' narrow loss to the Dockers at IKON Park.

Harrington collected a career-high 22 disposals thanks in part to a stellar first-half performance that saw her keep star forward Gemma Houghton to just one disposal.

Harrington did her best in the backline to shut out a surging Fremantle in the final quarter, her experience and talent on display in difficult circumstances to finish best a field despite a loss for Carlton.

Season highlight

It wasn’t quite the first goal that Harrington expected, but it was a first goal nonetheless.

As the Blues struggled to turn over their deficit in the last quarter, Harrington was awarded a rare shot on goal after the siren to close the gap, but ultimately would not get them over the line.

Harrington stayed composed and slotted her first career goal, four years in the making.
