The Carlton Football Club embarked on the second stage of its journey under senior coach Brendon Bolton in 2017.

After registering six wins, the Blues finished the season in 16th place on the ladder.

Despite falling four points short of its 2016 output, Carlton won more quarters in 2017, demonstrating the growth of the playing group in its second year with Bolton at the helm.

With the team now on a break, we’re analysing each player’s year in statistics. Here’s the review for Carlton defender Lachie Plowman.

Plowman enjoyed a consistent second year at Carlton, managing the most games (21) in a season since he began his career at Greater Western Sydney in 2013.

With a positive pre-season launching his fifth year in the AFL, Plowman came out of the blocks firing, averaging 18.67 disposals in defence after the first three rounds.

Growing in nearly all aspects of his game in 2017, the 23-year-old finished the season ranked 12th in the league for disposal efficiency and first in this category at Carlton.

He also climbed the stats sheet at the Blues to place second for one-percenters (94) and third for intercepts (112).

In Round 12, Plowman pulled on the No.20 for his 50th AFL game, celebrating a one-point win over his former team alongside teammate Matthew Kreuzer who played his 150th match.

As a reliable member of the Blues’ solid defence in 2017, Carlton fans will be eager to see Plowman take another step forward in 2018.

BEST PERFORMANCE

In Carlton’s first win of the season – against Essendon in Round 3 – the young defender exercised superb judgement behind the ball to effect six one-percenters, take six marks and collect 18 disposals at 94.4 per cent efficiency.

His impact on the game was not lost on the senior coaches following the Round 3 clash, with the Blues’ No.20 awarded two AFL Coaches’ Association votes for his efforts against the Bombers.

SEASON HIGHLIGHT

With nine minutes remaining and the game on the line, Plowman's inspirational mark against GWS won huge applause from the Carlton faithful.

The former Giant put himself in best position on the wing, getting in front of the dangerous Toby Greene and timing his mark to perfection.
