Carlton has been forced to make four changes to its line-up for Saturday's clash with arch-rival Essendon.

Simon White (knee), David Cuningham (ankle) and Harry McKay (turf toe) were casualties from the loss to Geelong, while young defender Tom Williamson also exits the side after succumbing to illness.

They've been replaced by speedsters Dennis Armfield, Billie Smedts, Blaine Boekhorst and Jarrod Pickett, who were key contributors in the Northern Blues' five-point win over Geelong on Saturday.

Armfield features in the senior team for the first time since Round 2, while Pickett will play his seventh AFL match.

Essendon has made three changes, welcoming back Patrick Ambrose, Ben Howlett and Josh Green at the expense of Jayden Laverde (omitted), Josh Kelly (rested) and No.1 draft pick Andrew McGrath (rested).

The Blues will be searching for their second win over Essendon in a home-and-away season for the first time since 2001, having defeated the Bombers by 15 points in Round 3.
